BBC Film to Feature Caitlin McCarthy as DES Daughter

Caitlin McCarthy will appear in an upcoming BBC film about the forced adoption scandal and the use of DES (known as Stilbestrol in the UK). The filming took place during McCarthy’s appearance at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, at the follow-up meeting to the world’s first government apology for DES and its use during the forced adoption scandal in Scotland.

The project is being led by BAFTA-winning documentary maker Lorraine McKechnie and BAFTA-winning director Kate Scholefield. Both filmmakers are widely respected for tackling difficult subjects with honesty and sensitivity, and McCarthy is honored to be part of their work.

As a DES daughter, McCarthy has long spoken about the impact of the drug and the urgent need for greater awareness. This BBC film offered her the chance to share her story on an international stage and to amplify the voices of others affected by DES and forced adoption.

The documentary is scheduled for release early next year. Further details will be shared as the release date approaches.
